    Hello!

Do you want to bring your dog or cat to the UK? Have you already brought your pet abroad?

We know that traveling with your favorite animal is possible, but you need to be prepared to pay a price and collect numerous documents. To learn about the process, read our post on transportation, customs and vaccinations for bringing your pet abroad.

Do you know what rules and regulations are related to bringing pets into the UK? What are the formalities and certificates you need to show?

How do you transport your cat, dog or any other pet into the UK? Are any animals forbidden entrance? Is quarantine necessary (and for how long)? How do you get a vaccination certificate for your pet?

Please share your experiences so new/future expats can prepare to bring their furry best friends with them! Thanks in advance for your answers. :D

    Hi,
As you said "our best friend", pets are really important part of our life. So ehy we leave them alone in home when we are planning to move in a new place.
The Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) is the system that allows pet animals from certain countries to enter the UK without quarantine as long as they meet the rules.
You will need to have your pet microchipped, vaccinated, arrange blood test, get PETS certificate, have it treated for ticks/tapeworm, sign declaration of residency, and arrange your pet’s travel on an authorized route with an authorized carrier.
Also, there are some rules for pets entering:
    1) Microchip the pet for identification purposes
    2) Rabies vaccinate the pet with an approved vaccine after micro chipping, recording the microchip number on the Rabies vaccination certificate
    3) Wait 21 + days (e.g. 23-25)
    4) See your accredited veterinarian for the issuing of the international health certificate within 10 days of flight departure
    5) Have the dog treated for tapeworms within 24-120 hours prior to flight departure.
I hope all this information will be helpful to all of us.

As per my knowledge no country has put any restriction on bringing pets to their country. As far as UK is concerned there are some conditions which james has already discussed to bring your pets to UK. So there is nothing to worry about pet relocation to UK.

We expected the trip to be stressful for the animals--especially the two that weren't young--but they had no problems. The part to watch out for is the paperwork, which is endless. DEFRA told us they'd given us a complete list of forms we needed to fill out, but when we took it all the the USDA vet for approval (a required step), we were told we were still missing a whole bunch of forms. We got everything filled out and got two cats and a dog in without a hitch, but don't rely on DEFRA. I don't know if it's incompetence or if it's anti-immigrant feeling transferring itself to animals (hey, it makes as much sense as anything else), but you want to have everything in order before the beasts get on that plane.

Congrats on the successful pet move ellenhawley! It seems that it is always a stressful process, but once you and your furry friend have arrived abroad all the trouble is forgotten. Enjoy!
