Re: job in London for 2003-2004

    Hi Florent,
You should give more details about what is your age, what you are looking for, what is your level of English...etc.

You could find a lot of jobs in pubs or shops that are used to employ young staff for short periods. If you've got experience in cooking, you can work in catering services or with a chef.
You will find more details in the London/Job section (<http://www.easyexpat.com/en/ln/index_city.htm>) and have a look over the Internet. If your English is not too bad you can directly contact agencies but if not I would advise just to come for 1 week and have a look around in London...
    Good luck

    Hi,

I'm currently planning a 2 years move to London (within the coming 3 years). I'm 25, have experience in variable sectors (sales as in a salesperson, administration, etc). I actually would like to ask very general questions :
    - How quickly can one expect to find a job. (gives me an idea of how much I need to save first)
    - What would you say would be the minimum one would earn (I like to prepare myself for worst case scenarios).

Just as an addendum, I'm Belgian - I presume that means it SHOULD be easier for me ... ? - and fluent in English (obviously).

    Thanks.

    Uwase

    Hi Uwase,
Welcome on EasyExpat. You should register first (as writing on the forum will need registration from next week ;-) ) .
Why do you think that it should be easier for you because you are Belgian? You probably think about the European rules, but you must know that you've got hundred of thousands of EU citizens in London...

In order to prepare your trip, I advise you first to read our section about London.

It's very difficult to answer your 2 questions as it really depends on what you are doing and how is currently your standard of living. In order to prepare your move - a few months in advance, you should contact some agencies, have a look on the internet, etc... You have to know that recruiting is using a lot Internet and most of companies ask an agency to take care of their job offer. By looking on the Internet you will also find a range of salaries that will give you a certain idea.

Accommodation is expensive, so you better expect to pay about £600+ in central London in a sharing flat/house if you want a minimum of confort. Everything is a bit more expensive than in Belgium, including Cinema (£9 at Leicester square for example), clothes...and you will probably travel a bit more if you want to go back to Belgium sometime.
Actually about transport, you better plan that as it is an extorsion! (<http://tube.tfl.gov.uk/content/tickets/default.asp?expandonly=menu1>)

    Good luck
