    Hi everyone,

I've been offered a job in Paris (coming from Montreal), and I'm curious to know about some of the living expenses. I'll be specific with my question and would appreciate it if you guys would give me an approximative number in euros on the monthly cost and if my estimations are right.

    1. Rent for furnished apartment ~25-30 m^2: ~800-1000 euros per month.
    2. Groceries: ~300/mo
    3. Electricity, heating, water, etc... (?)
    4. Gym membership (?)
    5. Internet + Phone (?)
    6. Bar/club entrance fees (?)

Not a big drinker, so don't really care about wine/alcohol prices.

    Thanks in advance. :)

I think that it would be easier if you say how much did they offer you and for which position.
Anyways if you really find a place in Paris furnished x 30sqm at 800€ let me know!

Thanks a lot Tex. Very useful links.

Neon, the offer is ~3400 euros per month net... Are you saying my rent estimation is way off?

It's a good offer for Paris, but if you wanna that kind of apartment, in Paris are more expensive, especially cos the furnished are quite unusual here.
Anyways you have more than enough to enjoy the city and save some money, so don't have any doubt and welcome to Paris.

I'll probably only be staying in Paris for 2 years or so, so furnishing my own apartment doesn't seem to be worth it.

If my estimations are off, any idea how much I should expect to pay for an apartment?

Unfortunately I don't have personal experience, but I seem to be finding monthly rent for a 2 bed flat in Paris between 900-1200 euros. For utility bills, an additional 150 euros a month. Furnished places do rent for higher as well.

    Anyone have personal experience?

I'm in zone 3, 20 min from the closer metro and the prices here are around 7-800.

    Hi,

We are interested by your feedback on the cost of living in Paris. With Easy Expat we have already a useful tool to compare the cost of living in some major cities in the world.

However we do not cover all the countries, nor all the destination where you can eventually decide to expatriate and gives a rough estimate. And a lot of questions come back regarding the cost of accommodation, transport or day-to-day life.

If you live in Paris, you can help the community and give information about the cost of living. You might be able to give indication and comments on the needs:
 Food (what to expect, what to find).
 Accommodation price in Paris. Rent?
 Transport (public transport but also the necessity and cost of using a car)
 Services (gaz, electricity, telephone, internet...)
    Tax
    Health, Education
    Entertainment (restaurant, cinema, theatre...)
    ... etc.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience with the community

I any case if you are looking for a job in Canada, his experience of finding a job in Paris will not be much help. You should better introduce yourself and ask questions in the forum Toronto.

And read our guide for expats in Canada :)

Based on our guide for expatriation to Paris and our information:

France is on par with the rest of western Europe as far as expense, but is about 25-35% cheaper than in the UK. Groceries tend to be fairly inexpensive, but property or raw goods can be pricey.

When traveling, expect to pay about €50/100 per person for mid-range accommodations and meals per day. Backpackers using hostels and cooking their own meals can get by on as little as €30 a day, not including transport.

    Estimates on cost of living:
    Rent 1-bedroom (City/Paris): €800-1,500/month
    Rent Studio (City/Paris): €600-1,000/month
    Rent 1-bedroom(Rural): €500/month
    1L unleaded petrol: €1.28
    French national newspaper: €1.20
    Cinema ticket: €8
    Basic 3-course evening meal: €18-30
    coffee in café: €2
Bottle of French table wine: €5
    600g pizza: €4.75
    70cl can of lager: €1
    1 bagette: €0.80/1.30
    1 kg potatoes: €1.45
    6 eggs: €2
    Weekly groceries: €30 - 80 per week

Do you have any other detail? Any comment?

Paris is very expensive, whether for accommodation, food or shopping. Obviously there are neighborhoods more or less expensive but the beauty of the neighborhood and its shops also vary according to the price of rents and shops nearby.
For my part I will say that it takes at least 15 euros minimum to eat in a simple restaurant and beyond 40 euros to start to frequent restaurants characterized by mid-range
