I am canadian citizen who overstayed his visit in poland in my 4th year of study (dentistry). First year i applied for a visa, second year i applied for a residency card. After that i never used a visa or a resisdency card because some of my friends told me that they were travelling without it and without any problems. Even then my tourist visa never expired because i travelled a lot, not until my 4th year of study (this year). When i was leaving for vacation this summer back to canada i was stopped at the airport in warsaw. I was then questioned and given a written document that i wouldn't be able to come back to poland for 1 year. This descision could also be appealed. I left the country voluntarly but was escorted my offciers (freely, not in handcuffs, basically deported). The immigration officer told me that this was a formal descision and that the appeal would most likely be positive for you. When i landed in canada i called my girlfriend in poland to write a letter the the people in charge of these situations. In the letter i explained everything and attached a letter from my school that stated that i passed everthing in my 4th year, that i was a good student, and the teachers preferred me. The immigration officer, polish embassy in toronto, and my school all thought that i would receive a postive response. But just yesterday i got the descision and it was negative. This is a final descision and i can only appeal the articles that i was charged with. Today i went to the embassy in toronto and they told me that they can't do nothing about this situation, neither can my school. The school did say however that i can take a leave of absence, which i do not prefer if there are other options. What what be my next step? What can i do to still get into poland without having to wait 1 year.

What you can do is get into any other country that is within the schengen area and then travel to poland by land, without any id control. E.g. You could fly to berlin in germany and then take the train to waw. Of course there is always a risk of being somehow caught being in poland, while you shouldn't, but i think that it is only border guard officers that would have this information in their system. If the police gives you a regular check, when you're e.g. Driving, then they will not see this - their system is not anyhow connected with any other.

    Good luck!
