    I am an American citizen and my wife of 9 years has dual citizenship (Romanian and American). We plan to relocate to Romania and build a house on property that we have already purchased in the same town that her relatives live in. I need information on my legal status residing in Romania, taxation, setting up accounts to receive my social security payments and other investment payments in Romania and also info on doing the move itself, container shipments etc. Any help will be greatly appreciated. RJ

    Once in Romania, on visit visa or otherwise ( I assume you don't need visa to visit Romania ) you can apply for Resident Card on the basis of your wife being Romanian which will be issued for 5 years. That allows you to work as well without any extra permit.

    Its a quite straight forward process.

    Thanks for that info Yousafzai. Do you know where I might find info about how to go about getting my social security check and 401K payments sent over there to me and any Romanian tax implications on my income that strictly comes from my retirement money? Thanks.

    I wish I could advise on tax and other money matters RJ, I would be a rich man.

    But check this link out if you haven't seen it earlier. I suppose its for people like yourself and hopefully they can answer all your questions.
