Hi. There is a my situation. I am not EU citizen. Married to EU citizen. We lived together 1 year in Poland and 3.5 years in the UK. We got a mortgage, both working, Iam also at full time education at 3rd year.
So now our love has gone and she want to separate. We do not going to divorce untill Ill get my british citizenship, hopefully in 3 years time.
Now I need to find a room to rent. The trick is that they all require contracts.
Hence my question, whether legal rental agreement will affect me?
Will it be treated as prove that we are separate with wife, or its just will stay between me and landlord and nobody else will know?
Should I avoid and be scared of legal renting agreement(contract)?
    Thanks

    Sorry to hear that.

There are two basic options. The first is retention of residence, which requires an active relationship lasting for at least 3 years - which seems to apply. This would give you a right to stay on your own, irrespective of what your ex is doing, but it does requires a finalised divorce, and quite a bit documentation.

The other options is to stay married. European law does not require you to live together, but you need to demonstrate an ongoing relationship, whatever that means. Anyway, you need a lot of documents from both of you covering the full 6 (or soon 8?) years before you can apply for citizenship, so this is probably the more difficult option.

As thsths mentioned, you can retain your right to stay in UK after divorce and it shouldn't be much of a problem for you since your wife is ready to co-operate in this regard.
