    Hello,

My boyfriend and I have started looking into getting married here in Canada. I'm a US citizen on a work visa for being a nanny here in Vancouver, so I'm extremely restricted for work and living. My boyfriend is Canadian and lives way on the other side of town.

I wanted to work in Canada to get my Residence permit after 2 years of work but now that our relationship has worked out, we have thoughts of maybe trying to do it sooner via marriage. I still have 1.5 years left until I can even apply for the permit through nannying.

My question is if anyone knows of applications for applying to get the perm residence permit while still on the work visa? Is it really still 8 months or so even after I already have the medical taken care of?

I guess we have so many different scenarious, we are both kinda up in the air on what to do. Of course I have not told my employer as these are just first thoughts.

Any additional thoughts or answers would be cool too. We are thinking about going in for an appointment to ask about all this stuff possibly...

    Hello thnkfst,

We don't have all the answer.

We try to inform people from our experiences or from our friends experiences.

We just give advice , we are not professionnal in laws.

I advice you to visit the CIC website :
    http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.html

You will find a lot information on this official website ( citizenship and iimmigration canada)

    Best regards,

    Ophelie

    American marrying Canadian

Hi. i am an American (female) trying to marry my Canadian boyfriend. He lives in New Brunswick and currently is in university , as am I down in the US. When I graduate in 2 years we want to get married and for me to move up their. I have been engaged for 2 years and we have been trying to sort all this out. My boyfriend will be going to Medical School in New Brunswick Canada so I will be moving up their and hopefully become a teacher in Canada.
I want to know what the process is for an American looking to get married to a Canadian in Canada. How long does it take, what is the paper work like. When can we actually get married? Also when can I work once we are married. And if anyone has any info on becoming a teacher in Canada if you are one in the US please feel free to give me information on that to haha. We are really lost. Now, we do realize we will need to get a lawyer to do this all as smoothly as possible, but we want to know what we are up against time wise, restrictions, paper work etc. When will I have full canadian rights. How can I work once I am married? How long do we have to wait to get married or when can we? What papers do we need?
Thanks for the help ! I need it please please please !!!
