I am new to this website and I have found already lots of great info.

I would like to tell you my situation and I would like to have your advice in regard:
I am Italian and my partner is Costarican.
We have been together for more than two years and we have proof of co-habitation and we are both self sufficient.
We are planning to move to UK and live and work in there.
My non EEA partner is going to apply for a EEA family permit on line next week to the New York visa center as in Costa Rica there is no visa services through the British Embassy.
Question: Any idea how long is going to take to get the permit?
More than that, any advice on which kind of documents we should submit to prove we have been on a durable relationship? We have letters from family and friends, flat rental contract with both names on it; we are going to submit both bank accounts statements as a prove of enough money to sustain ourselves in the UK till we get a job.
Has anyone of you applied for the EEA permit through New York being in the same situation of us ? Did the immigration officer call you for interview?
The last question: when submitting the documents for the EEA family permit , should the non EEA family member submit the passport or just a copy for it?

Good afternoon all,

Just let you know we got the EEA family permit.
We submitted the online application September 9th; My partner sat for biometrics the following week at the local British Embassy and the same day we sent all the relevant documents to New York as requested (via the British Embassy mail).
After one week we received a mail from New York confirming they received our application and documents and today after 4 working days we received another mail stating the EEA family permit has been issued and we will receive the passport back with the stamp in 5 working days to be collected at the local British Embassy.
We did not use any visa services to apply for it and we only paid 20 USD for the online application.
Hope this info can help someone else in the same situation of us.
