My significant other and I have yet to marry, we're both over 25yrs of age, and we are both Canadian citizens.

He was offered a position in a "friend-of-the-family's" company. So there is a lead for a work visa.

I am a first generation Canadian, as my father was born in Scotland. As were my grandparents and their parents before. I have plenty of family still residing there as well.

Might anyone be able to point me in the right direction on how to begin the process of moving to Scotland.

Neither of us have any medical difficulties or criminal records or any of the such that I've read from random sites.

Or, should I merely call the British High Commision up in Ottawa?

I apologize before hand in the event feedback for a similar situation was offered prior.

Thank you to any and all for your valuable advice.

    Cheers.

Because your father was born in Scotland you can apply for citizenship. You will need to obtain your father's birth certificate (if he doesn't have an original copy you can get it from the General Register http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/), your parent's marriage certificate. Fill out your passport application, send it in to the North American Passport Production Centre Washington D.C., they don't accept passport applications at the High Commission in Ottawa anymore.

Information on how to apply can be found here:

    http://ukinusa.fco.gov.uk/en/passports/how-to-apply

The list of documents you will need are here:

    http://ukinusa.fco.gov.uk/en/passports/ ... -documents

I've been through the process myself in preparation for moving in October, so if you have any questions, ask!

That's excellent. Thank you! Most of the items are easily obtainable. However my Father has been deceased for a few years, so I'd have to speak with my Mother or Grandmother for that information.

Umm, what is the turn around time after everything has been mailed in. Or, I should ask...how long has this entire process taken you?

I was really slow about it. I managed to get my hands on all the paperwork I needed like my father's birth certificate pretty quickly. I think once I sent away the request I had it in my hands in about two weeks.

Once I submitted my passport application it took about a month, but that was before they switched the process to the new way of sending it to DC. Theoretically you should be able to get all sorted in a couple of months.
