    Hello All,

I am currently in UK(working and studying) on EEA2 permit.I am wondering whats next step in order to be naturalised British.

    From BIA website
"If you are a European Economic Area (EEA) national or a Swiss national or the family member of such a person, you will automatically have permanent residence status if you have exercised EEA free-movement rights in the United Kingdom for a continuous five-year period ending on or after 30 April 2006. You do not have to apply for leave to remain. You should have held permanent residence status for 12 months before you apply for naturalisation."

Does it mean, after 5 years used up on my EEA 2, i can apply directly for citizenship or do I have to apply for IDLR?

    Share your knowledge with me!

That means you can apply for permanent residence (which is very much like ILR) after 5 years. And you probably have to, because your residence card is only valid for 5 years.

You can apply for naturalisation 1 year after you got eligible for permanent residence. But there are few reasons to do so, because permanent residence is already a very useful status. For example you have access to public funds.

    Re: eea4?

    Hi mate,

The above you posted only applies to EU/EEA nationals. As you are a family member of EU/EEA national you have to be married for 5 years to your Spouse and be on EEA2 residence card. After 5 years you can apply for EEA4 know as PR. A year after for Naturalization. Application has to be sent before your current card expires. As far as i know its 28 days before your visa expiry.
