Hi. I have just received a FANTASTIC opportunity to travel with my company. I have to work out of one of their offices, the choice is between

    • France, Paris
      Germany, Frankfurt
      Netherlands, Nieuwegein
      Switzerland, Zurich

I will be on an average wage and don't speak French, German, Italian or Dutch. So language is not an issue at the moment. (Of course I will learn the language when I make the decision)

I want to know what other expats would choose and why! So let me know because I need to make a decision soon, and want to know as much as i can about the pros and cons of these places!

    Thanks!

That's a matter of taste, I guess. In Holland you will probably find the most people that speak English, if that is a significant concern. But my personal favorite would be Paris (of course!).

Is it the same everywhere? There are significant difference in taxation and cost of living between these places (all high, but some higher than others :)).

I moved the subject to the Departure forum, where it seems more appropriate :)

Netherlands wouls have been probably my choice, but themn Amsterdam, not Nieuwegein. I am quite sensitive to transport and like a place well connected, therefore my choice would be probably Paris then (Frankfurt is not bad, but will be better with the Hight Speed Rail connection with France soon and is more family oriented - so it depends).

Also I would recommend to look at our cost of living comparison tool.

thanks Admin! I am a single guy, so family oriented is not really an issue at the moment :)

I have used the cost of living calculator, its a pretty handy tool! Hopefully I can get a few more replies now!

PS I agree about Amsterdam (being a good choice to live), but I already know how to speak one useless language (Swedish), and don't want to learn another useless one (Dutch). (no offence to those nationalities, but they ALL speak better English than I would ever be able to speak Dutch or Swedish) ;-)
