    Hi all,

I'm beginning to plan my American girlfriends move to the UK and I'm trying to work out the best way of her obtaining a visa. Is there a list of the "Application Support Centres" that are mentioned on the britainusa.com site where she can submit biometric information? As she's disabled it's not easy for her to get to Chicago, so I'm hoping there is somewhere closer she can go for the appointment. I'm planning on using somewhere like MigrationExpert.com for the application.

Also, is it practical (or possible) for us to marry in the US, her visit me in the UK and then apply for a spouse visa while she is here? If so, that would leave transporting the cat over as the major hurdle...

    Thanks in advance.

As far as I can tell, they have application support centres in a bunch of cities, but you won't know where they are until your application is submitted!

Also, from what I've read you CAN'T just get married over in the UK. She'd be in the UK as a visitor, and I don't think they allow marriage in the UK unless you are here on a visa longer than 6 months (I'm on a work visa, for instance). A fiancée visa is ANOTHER $1000 on top of the $1000 for a spouse visa, so I would recommend getting married in the states. Transporting the cat would be WAY cheaper!!!

I think you can get married in the US and then have her apply for a spouse visa after the fact, as long as you meet the requirements and submit all the paperwork. I've looked at http://www.workpermit.com/uk/marriage.htm a lot for information.

There are lots of helpful posts on here (check out lady edward's for a list of what she included for instance) that I'm using to get my paperwork ready.

Hope this helps! Sorry I'm not more of an expert.

That's pretty much what I figured, given the lack of information on the site about it. The problem is if I'm not there with a rental car it's almost impossible for my GF to travel anywhere on her own, and even then not any great distance.

We plan on getting married in the US, which will make the whole process easier, but what I was wondering is if she has to apply for a spouses visa in the US, or can do it in the UK on a visitor visa. It would be much easier in the UK given the shorter distances involved!

The biometric stuff I think you'll have to do in the US.

As for applying from the US, it will only require a trip to the post office. They don't do applications in person any more, so that won't require any distance at all.

If you're able to be in the US (I'm assuming you'd be present for the wedding!!), I think you can get a notarized copy of your passport before you have to go back to the UK to include in her application. Then you can just mail everything out. If you really want some help, you can invest in one of those expeditors, but they seem like a waste of money if your application is fairly straightforward.
