    Polish passport

    Hi all,

I've been following the topic for a while now, and wandered if anyone could shed some light on a few things. Reading certain replies there seems to be conflicting information on what the procedure needs to be taken once confirmation on citizenship is acquired.

I am a UK citizen, and have been told by my contact in Warsaw that I will get a result from my application in March, which is highly likely to be a positive outcome as my father is a Polish citizen. Could anyone tell me what steps I would take after this, to acquire a PESEL number, passport and ID card. Could I complete these steps at the consulate in London or would it be quicker to go to Poland and apply directly.

    Cheers for any info provided

    Duane

    Re: E.U./Polish Citizenship

Personally I like to relate to the movie National Treasure. The moral in that movie is that every time you find a clue, all you find is another clue, whilst nobody believes that what you are looking for even exists.

    Re: Lawyer Recommendation

    Hello,

I am new here. I am also looking polish lawyer but I rather want anyone here ask about adv. Piotrowski. Somebody here has written that he is specialized in it. I have found some information by internet about him. I have contacted with his office and now I am thinking about handling my case with him. This is his law office internet site address : www.citizenship.com.pl

I know that his is specialized in certification polish citizenship for Israeli so is here any other person that is not Israeli that entrust him his case?

    Thanks! :!:

    Help!

I am totally new to this site, so I am not sure if I am doing this correctly!

I too have applied for my Polish Citizenship and I experiencing a very lengthly wait for it's approval. I am an Australian Citizen and am currently living in the UK whilst I await the approval.

I saw Jenni, that you have used a lawyer in Warsaw that was able to help. Would it be possible to ask you for this contact?

Also I noticed that someone else was able to ring the number of the office in Warsaw to check on their application. I myself have hunted for this number for over a year now, with no luck. If someone is able to send this to me I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks in advance for the help!

    Nicole :)

    Re: Help!

how long ago did you apply?

I was in poland about a month ago. I was told anybody who is applying through their relevant consulate now can expect a wait of up to 3 years for citizenship confirmation.

    Re: Help!

    Hi,

I contacted again with Law Office in Warsaw. The price per person is 500 EURO for certification and 200 EURO for other action to receive me Polish passport.

They told me that the period to complete my case is about 1 year.
Do you think that this offer is o.k?

I do not want to do it personally becouse I do not have time and possibility to ask Polish administrative what is going on with my case.

I rather order to them handling my case.

    TNX

    Re: Help!

one thing i've learnt about this whole process is not to listen to time frames you are told.

when i initially applied, i was told it would take up to 12 months to be confirmed. However, it took 2 years for my application to be approved and my application was fairly straight forward. All the documents were there from day 1.

    An update on my case:
I submitted my passport application at the consulate in early October.
Last week, they finally cashed my check 3 months later. I'm guessing that means that my passport should be on its way pretty soon. Maybe another month before it arrives?

Both my parents were born in Poland ( I was born in the states) and I obtained all necessary documents to apply for citizenship which was sent in Nov 2007 in Chicago. I know I have a long time still but any clue how long these will take? Anybody know how to speed up the process also?

I suggest you to take a law office. As I know (from my uncel and friend experience) start procedure by polish embassy or consulate takes more time. (we have the same problem and by Consulate case took about 1.5 year and my uncle did't obtain it... by Law Office it takes not so long and my uncle obtain it.

I recieved confirmation of my Polish citizenship in December, 2007. For those of you waiting, it took 30 months from the time I applyed until receiving it. I did it through the Consul in Vancouver, who had estimated 12 months.

I now need to get the PESEL and passport. The consul in Vancouver estimates 6 months. Based on how long it took my very straightforward case for confirmation of citizenship with scads of documentation, I have my doubts, so I have decided to go directly to Poland and get my PESEL and passport there.

Has anyone on this forum gone to Warsaw to apply for PESEL and passport? What is the wait time if you go directly? What is the procedure like? Any advice, stories, helpful hints?

Please accept my apologies for breaking the train of thought here. I have a question on this matter. My grandfather was born in Ezlbietow. I am not sure when his parents migrated to Poland and obtained Polish citizenship. As for my grandfather he served in the Polish Armed Forces and obtained the rank of Corporal and received a medal of some kind. The story I was told about this medal was that it was stolen a number of years ago. Nobody in the family knows what the medal was for.
Second, he got (re)married in and currently lived in Lublin in 1940. But sometime during the war the family relocated to Germany and then migrated to Canada by January 1951. My mother was born in Lublin in 1942. After the family came to Canada they got their citizenship in 1956. No ones if my grandparents gave up their Polish citizenship or not. Or they are not telling me because they are embarrassed of their background.
I did find an address where I might be able to find military records for my grandfather. The address I found was in the U.K. So I am wondering if there might be a chance of obtaining Polish citizenship myself. I am not sure if I can get a copy of my grandfathers' birth certificate considering he was born in 1899. I have a rough idea that the city he was born in was in Polish territory Would the consulate/embassy accept the military records in place of the birth certificate towards the application for citizenship? I do have a copy of a letter from my mother which has my grandfathers' address in Lublin dated in 1940 where he is adopting one of my two aunts.

I'm trying to makes sense of the Polish laws regarding citizenship, and I'm hoping that some of you might be able to help out. My wife's father was born in Poland in 1935. Ethnically German, but the fourth generation born on Polish soil. When the Soviets were approaching Łódź in January 1945, his family fled (as did most of the ethnic Germans left in town) into Germany itself. Sometime in the early 1950's (1953-1954?) I forget exactly when, he immigrated to the US and obtained US citizenship.

Am I correct in assuming that the 1951 Polish Citizenship Act would have stripped him, and by extension his daughter (born well after all this happened), of any claim to Polish citizenship in the present day?

    Thanks,
    --Chris
