I had an appointment in Croydon for EEA1 for me and a baby. I had all necessary documents regarding employment. Baby has no passport yet so I had his english birth certificate. Is it enough? The waiting times in our consulate are very long..
I'm from one of A8 countries and I'm working here lawfully since almost 2 years now. I couldn't believe as the woman at the reception told me they are not going to process my application because I receive Child Benefit. So I made a travel of more than 100 km, had to change a few trains with a buggie and no lift, had to wait for about an hour in a queue to hear that I have to apply through the post. The baby fell sick after that.
Why there is absolutely NO information whatsoever about it neither on the website nor on the application form? Only about employment. And what are they checking in their database in Croydon? I remember I had to fill in an extra form about that I'm registered by WRS before they granted me Child Benefit. If HM Revenue and Customs doesn't check my entitlement for Child Benefit before it is granted to me and I don't apply for EEA1 - who then does? I can take money for 20 years or so without being entitled! I told them I'm from EU but they always the same story - there are procedures to check if I'm entitled. I asked them why the woman on the phone didn't tell me about it while making an appointment. They said I should have asked. But I'm sure I have right for that so why ask then. My husband has got his residence card (non-eu) already so what's the problem. But they don't know which nationalities have which rights even if they deal day-to-day with it.. And application through the post can take up to 6 months... that's what I wanted to avoid... I wanted to invite somebody as a visitor pretty soon and what can I do now? I need some confirmation of my status. Is WRS registration card and employment certificate sufficient? I doubt... I said I want to complain and I wanted their names. they took my name because such is a procedure..... I hope they won't make my life difficult later on.
I called the complaints line by HO but nobody picks up the phone So I complained by Solvit. Where is it in writing that the application of person taking benefit can't be processed on the same day? They didn't want to tell me. They don't do it. Basta. There is none I suppose. But I don't pay 500 pounds fee so why bother about me, I should wait then...They can always ask for more docs they said... Thank you UK. Had anybody similar experience? Any hints? thanks

I'm sorry to hear that you have not had much luck with the Home Office - but I can't offer any help or hints. It just confirms my impression that they are indeed unfit to do their job. Unfortunately, they are apparently not accountable to anybody (or whoever they are accountable to doesn't care), so they can get away with being a disgrace for the country that some people have called a "great nation". ;-)
I'm not surprised at all that they claim that they want to re-check whether you are eligible for child benefit. In the UK, very few left hands appear to know what the right hands are doing, so to speak. And unfortunately, when something can go wrong, there seems to be a 50% chance that it will. Funny country!
Anyway - I keep my fingers crossed that everything will eventually work out for you.
    Good luck!

I don't understand why you couldn't get child benefit, cos you have worked 2 years already in UK? After 1 year working supposed to get all the benefits. Something supposed to be wrong...
