I plan do drive my UK car into Italy at the end of the year. I will then be living in Italy for about another 18 months. I know if my car is here continuously for more than 6 months I have to register in Italy, but if I leave the country and re enter, even for a day is that ok to keep UK registration? I could Tax MOT before arrrival then return once to UK to update tax and MOT.

Alternantively how difficult/expensive is it to register here and then reregister as British when we reenter UK? Indeed, might it be cheaper to do that (petrol and tickets to UK and costs of UK v Italian insurance consdered)

I need to drive in because I am bringing our pets in the car and similarly, will return to UK in the car. I am ok with the idea of driving on the other side of the road.
