We are going to Nigeria to get married, i am the EEA national. He has a visiting visa until 2008. He is here for PLAB test (he is a medical doctor)
So we are going as soon as possible, but what is best....
Apply for a family permit while i Nigeria, if so how long will it or cant it take? OR should we return here (UK) then apply for the permit?
I am not working, have been since NOV 2005 when i came here, but have not been since 30 SEP. Had no nursery space for my son, will go back to work after marriage.
What is the best thing to do here? And what do they mean by excersing TREATY RIGHTS????? I have been on income support since NOV. I know its not valid, but it says somrthing like 3 months.....LOST!!!

    Thank you for your Help!!!!!

    Hello

The EEA permit for my wife took 7 days from the day of application that was from the Embassy in Nairobi.

    Hi Oct,

It took me about three weeks to get an EEA family permit from the British High Commission in Lagos. There was a two and half week waiting period.

I was given a two year permit.

    Hi oct2002,
Treaty rights basically means economically active in the your settled country as an EC citizen.
You can get married here in the UK with a COA(Certificate of Approval) if granted by the HO with a fee of £135.
He must have at least 3 month left in his Visa if he usually have a mix 6 months.
On the alternative both of you have to go to Nigeria, get married and make an application to BHC for a EEA family permit.
Since you are on income support, that you have to find out from the appropriate authorities.
