I just got an offer for the same amount - but I assume you have started by now. It came out to be just over 3000GBP/month net take home pay. Where did you live and since I'll be being paid the same, what standard of living does that provide?

In England, and even in the heart of London, it provides a very good standard of living. With that amount of money, you can buy a very decent property with a mortgage.

    Hi Prisci24,

Mind if you advise as to how can i buy a studio apartment in London. My job pays 60000 pounds/ year. I'm a singaporean. Been writing to the forum for help actually but found what's here helps. My work place is in Canary Wharf, heard that it is better to live in London, but of course along Jubilee line would be great, plus other safety reasons. Will be there in mid Nov.

    Thanks for your time.

P/S. To the owner of this thread, please excuse me for hijacking your thread cos subject discussed is relevant to me. Thanks also to you.

    Hello all

A quick way to get an idea of take home pay in the UK is to take 66% of the gross figure (ie your pay before tax) - that is roughly what you will see in your pocket each month. This works quite well for gross pay up to about 60,000.

Most UK banks will lend you 3.5 times your gross income as a single person, or 3 times your joint income as a couple, to buy a property.

Property prices (and rents) are very high in London though and for a nice place in a central location, you will need to commit quite a bit of money in rent or mortgage each month....

    Hope that helps

    > need to know,

I agree with what Royale said regarding the amount of money you would have to take out for the mortgage.
however, if you intend to stay in London, on the long term, it is not a bad idea to invest money in a flat or house.
Transport in the Docklands is generally good and don't forget that you could get a bus to your work place if it is not very far. You can easily walk between the different stations on the DLR.

    Good luck!
