    Hi folks,

    I need help!

I am about to leave the flat where I live and was told i should write a letter to terminate the tenancy but have no clue on how to do that: any help/example?

Also, I am thinking on moving to another country for a while -haven't decided yet: how would that work with my bank account? I'd like to keep it so that when I come back I won't have a new one but...is it possible? does anyone have any experience with that?

Last but not least, I'd like to get rid of some of my books and a friend suggested I sell them to 2nd hand bookshops: do you know any honest one in central London? Was suggested to try to Notting Hill ones but I've read they give you less than nothing so it's not worth carrying the books around: si it true?

Any practical help on all the above -or anything else I may have to deal with would be soo so appreciated!

    Cheers

    (private messages welcome)

    Hi there

The letter to end your tenancy should be very simple. As long as you mention the address of the property, your name, and the date that you want the agreement to cease, that should be fine.

For the bank account, you can keep it open, but the bank might want you to have a UK address. If you can find a reliable friend whose address you can use for the bank statements etc, that is probably the best solution.

Otherwise, you could call the bank and ask them if you can give an overseas address for a while. I don't know about UK banks, but I have had accounts in France and Denmark and have given them a UK address as a mailing address after I have left the country. They allowed me to keep the accounts open.

For your books, have you thought about Amazon? They now do second hand books as well as new. I have never used the service, so I don't know what the prices are like, but you can check on http://www.amazon.co.uk

    Good luck!

    Hi Royale,

Thank you so much for your help!

I will check with the bank whether I can keep the account open, that would solve so many problems!

I was suggested not to use Amazon as it is like ebay: you need to pay for the service and it's not worth it for a bunch of used books.

    Cheers!

I think the book question depends on what typoe of books they are.

If they are standard fiction cheapies and you are trying to get rid of them then a charity shop will not give you money, but may be the best option.

I they are more valuable or specialist books than the book buyers will come to you, especially if you have a big quantity. Phone likely shops and read them a list of titles, they will tell you if you can help. I have sold books in Hampstead and it was ok, but these were specialist books.

The other sales vehicle I have used is Book Barn (I think it is www.bookbarn.co.uk) its a chain of huge second hand book warehouses/barns. I don't know any in the southeast, but they might collect if you have a large quantity.

In all honesty, mass produced modern fiction might be a donation job!
