I've read a lot of threads on the forum already regarding couples wishing to marry and immigrate...but my situation is slightly different!

My fiance and I both live in the US. I am a British citizen, but I am living/working in the US under a visa.

We wish to get married next year, and we would really like to be married in the UK where I grew up (we intend to return to the US after the wedding). My family still lives in the UK, so we thought this would not be a problem...but now I am reading articles which suggest it could be difficult after all.

That URL explains that my fiance would need to live in the UK for at least 7 days prior to the wedding, and then wait around 21 days for the marriage certificate to be issued. I am not sure if there will be further problems with the legality of the wedding when we return to the US...and we are very short on time, so a 7+ day wait in the UK would be too long

Does anyone have any more information/experiences they can share with us? It is very sad that we might not be able to be married in the UK after all, especially since all my family are there.

It mentions a special finace visa which can be applied for. If my fiance were to obtain one of these, would that bypass the need for her to live in the UK for 7+ days prior to the wedding etc ?
