    This might be a stupid question to most of you but I would like to know how you (mainly girls I guess) wash and dry hand wash only clothes (such as woolly jumpers) if you live in a country where its always cold and raining.

    I plan to move to Ireland and am sure that unlike what I do here in the Meditteranean I surely can't hang out the washing in the yard .So i was thinking whether washing the clothes in a basin and hanging them on a horse rack to dry (it sometimes takes more than a day for thick woollies to dry) inside will make them stink.

    Or do you just dump them in the washing machine and risk having them shrink ? :)))

    It depends on the quality of the material. With jumpers on low temperature (40 deg.) you can risk them in the washing machine with confidence (usually most of the washing machines have got whool wash programs). For fragile pieces, you may want to wash them in a basin.

    About hanging the clothes, you just hang them in your kitchen or your bathroom for example, using a clothes horse.

    PS: Ireland, like England and other such countries is not that cold! :lol:

    Most of my jumpers are high quality ones such as Gap and Benetton so I really take care of them.

    Thanks for the info...well for me Ireland IS cold as i am from Malta and the temperature is still around 23 degrees here!!

    Lived in England for 4 months during the winter time. I always wash my cashmere, silk, and wool jumpers in the cold delicate cycle. Do be careful you don´t leave them too close to the radiators as they will shrink. Cashmere and wool will smell when you take them out of the wash. You could try white vinegar in the wash to help diminish that. Once they are dry, they are fine smelling tho.

    Oh by the way, there are times when the sun does appear and you can hang things outside. Just watch the skies for any showers and be quick to bring the line back inside.

    You hang outside...if you've got a garden... It's not like in Italy where they hang at windows.

    And BTW regarding the "smell", I've never had my jumper smelling bad... just use conditionner and they will smell lavender ;-)
