I am from a commonwealth country and I am getting married to a French citizen soon. As a consequence I will have legal documents to remain and work in France but we want to move to some other european countries (Spain or Italy) and I am wondering if I will have the rights to work there. Does anyone know?

    Thanks

As married to a EU citizen, you inherite automatically his/her rights to live and to work (if it applies). You will find specific cases or more informations on other posts in this forum, but the general rule is that you are free to move within the European Union.

    Hello,
I know that UK is not in the schengen countries but as far as I know EU citizens have the same kind of possibilities (move there and work without restrictions).
Are there the same advantages for a non-EU citizen married to a EU citizen ?

Thanks in advance for your answer, this is really important !
    Best regards,
    Jerome

The answer is in my previous message: As married to a EU citizen, you inherite automatically his/her rights.

    Thanks for your answer.

Ok she inherits my rights (I'm French).

It could be that easy but she needs a "EEA family permit".
I don't currently live / work in UK, I live in France and she has a great job opportunity in UK.

It seems that we need evidence that I am settled in the UK (work contract..)

Do you confirm ? Any idea to make things simpler ?

    Correct.
Maybe if you settle a company in the UK, it will work... but not sure. It's better to ask Coyan.

Okay, try this little trick and come back and tell us how it works. Since the EU Permit for the non-EU spouse does not differentiate between a visitor and a potential settler, just go to the Embassy and request for an EU Stamp in your wife,s passport saying she is accompanying you for a visit to the UK.

This stamp is valid for 6 months and entitles her to work. It is also renewable for another 12 months at the Embassy. But then for her to get a Permanent EU permit she may eventually have to apply from within the UK to the Home Office with your support or based on her own job.

In the interim she can exercise her Rights to work with the temporary EU Stamp in her Passport. An alternative as Expatax said is to register a company in your name.

Once you are married , she has a number of options. Please lets know how it goes. Good Luck

    Hi there
i realise this is an old thread, but i just wanted to add that i am in a similar situation, i'm an australian about to get married to a spanish national, but looking for work in the uk. I found this which should be useful
    http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/eucit ... sibilites/

so basically from what i understand, a non eu spouse needs to get a resident card (in spain is the tarjeta de la residencia) after the marriage, and this should be valid to confirm the eu rights.

Has anyone done this or is it more complicated than i imagine??
