Right well I'm a canadian citizen i was married in germany for 5 years then that all went to hell in a handbasket, I have permanent Residence visa and work visa so basically a perm resident in Germany. I'm working for myself here (ich AG), I recently in the last half year have met a woman who is a UK citizen and it's gone far enough I am wanting to move there and she wants me there.

Naturally I'm looking for work there but a wee bit fuzzy on the work, living visa permit thing there (tried reading what I need on the web but my head is spinning) i know if I find a employer willing to give me a job and they really want me will apply for a work visa for me? or do i have to do this? Here in germany (back before EU time) i had to have a job offer (contract) then apply here in germany for it.. boy that was a horror.

The next question is what am I?? I mean I'M a perm resident of Germany but not really a EU member just a canuck with some fancy german paperwork saying I am allowed to live/work here as long as I want till I had enough or till i die here (my choice) does this alter my status for applying for resident and work visa paperwork for the UK?

third question was what if we want to marry in the UK? she being a UK citizen (by birth) and me a canadian citizen by birth and no uk heritage (gran or such). But with perm german paperwork: Unbefristet Aufenthalstserlaubnis and Arbeitserlaubnis or would it be easier for her to get married here with me?

hope this made sense I'm a tad tired looking for work and combing the web for info and just happend to come on this great forum. Immigration laws make my head spin. heh

    thanks

    Hi there,

If you marry in Germany to enter UK you will need settlement visa.On that visa you can work from the moment you set foot on the british soil.

If you want to marry in the UK you will have to apply for fiance visa. You can not work with that visa .
    All info here:

Right so here it is. We wish to marry, my head is swiming with these laws here so maybe somone could explain this in plain english what we need to do or I or her on both sides of the channel.

my guess going there and applying to marry is going to get us?? no where? so I have to apply to the British Embassy here in Berlin for a marrage visa? Are there things I have to watch out for? not state or need to state to ensure that we get the right to marry in the UK?

I've seen varrious examples but none for my situation so to say. (see above).

we so do love eachother but are at wits ends on how to get me there in the UK legaly so we can finnaly be together.

help? need more info from me?

A further question... can you apply for the marriage visa once already living in the UK? Or do they want you to apply to your home country's UK office?
