Election day has begun and the final hours of the electoral process in the United States are counting down. The big question for all expats – either American overseas or expatriates living in the US – is what will be the impact on their lives after the result.

In this article we analyse not only the impact on the millions of American citizens who live outside the US, but also the consequences it may have on expats living in the US (non US citizens):

I don't think we will know the final result tonight and in any case riots are very likely in either way:
    - if Trump wins again, all Americans who spent 4 years thinking it was just a bad dream might think that they cannot take 4 more years.
    - if Biden wins, Trump supporters will probably say that this election is rigged.
And don't forget that even if he loses, Trump won't go until January... still 2 more months where a lot can be done!
The Daily Beast said: "The president won’t go quietly even if things don’t go well Tuesday night. Beyond that, politics has forever been changed by his presidency."
I personally think that is the only certain thing!

Indeed this is very VERY tight, and there is no landslide as predicted by pollers. Which put the questions on polls in the US: Have they not learnt anything from 2016?
In any case it seems to announce 4 more years of uncertainty and more polarized society than ever...

You were spot on about this. A lot of people are still saying it was rigged, even though the final tally was not really that close. I do have to say I'm somewhat surprised that Trump has been relatively off the radar since leaving office.

The result based on the total votes was not close, but the US does not work by total result, but by state... and that was close!

A few thousands more (or less) in a few states (Arizona, Wisonsin and Georgia were close) and the president would have been very different. Democrats lost seats in the Congress and it was a tie race in the Senate...

Which means that the Biden administration might have only 2 years to change things, afterwards they might face obstructions from the Congress if it changes Republican, or from the Senate...
I would feel very uncomfortable living in the US currently. :(
