Hi, i was wondering if you could tell me
    1. how long the FMRS (Family Member Residency Stamp) is valid for?
    2. is FMRS a type of visa?
    3. can you work and apply for a National Insurance Card?
    4. Can you travel overseas and come back to the UK with FMRS?

    hey budy!!!

    hello friend,
Regarding FMRS its a resident stmp for the Non EEA family member of EEA family member. You can call it like a visa type.
You must be present in the UK to apply for it.
Its valid for one year (Mine FMRS is for one year )
You can travel with it outside The UK but u need to have a visa if You fall Under visa required categories.
Other thing is you can visit this link of mine

please note that you can apply for eea1 or 2 (i am not sure which one is non eea) and FMRS and EEA forms may take u to 6 months to get issued but inbetween you can work legelly...

    wishes and luck
    Manish

    Shieldboy, to answer your questions:

    1. Used to be 6 months, now maybe it has been extended.
    2. FMRS is NOT a visa, it is a form of entry clearance. A visa is also a form of entry clearance. The main difference between the 2 is, visas have fees attached to them, while permits do not.
    3. You can apply for a national insurance card, as long as you have documentation/proof that you are actively seeking employment. And with an FMRS, employment wise, the answer would be yes, you can work.
    4. You can travel overseas, but only within the validity of your FMRS, and this travel might be restricted that you be with the EEA National.

    @Manish Sharma
He can travel overseas if he so wishes, and he does not need a visa to return to the UK.That is why permits are only given to family members of EEA Nationals, as they are considered EEA as well due to their relationship (parent, spouse, child). Now if they cease to have that relationship with the EEA National, then yes it might be a trigger for them to apply for a proper visa in some cases.

Please be careful with your "recommendations" to others. We have established this website to be a source of factual information, where people can rely to get assistance and lessen the confusion.

Thank you very much for your taking your time out to answer my questions! It's very much appreciated.

I was wondering if you could tell me the criteria for FMRS with regards to the EEA national's employment. Does the EEA national have to be in full time employment? And does the EEA national have to have contracted work and what if the job is seasonal and the person plans to apply for another job when the seasonal job is about to finish? Thank you very much!
