With my job 60% of the time I work in the UK, 40% I travel around Europe (Belgium, Germany, Norway, Sweden etc.) but NOT Spain. I work Monday to Friday returning home each weekend, leaving either Sun/Mon.

If I move to Spain, I would like to work as a normal UK employee while in the UK, getting the benefits of Pension, NI, NHS etc.

When working overseas, I want to bill my UK employer for the time overseas, this has been agreed by them in principle. If I have a company in Jersey that bills my UK employer.

Do I have to pay Tax, and if so do I pay tax in UK or Spain ?

Being in your position I would look for tax optimization in full compliance.

Have a look at this site:

I have no interest in breaking the law, to use your own phrase I would like to optimize my tax position.

I have a wife and son, so I need to ensure that they are well protected, and I am not in prison!!. Because of my current salary I get no child tax allowance in the UK. By reducing the amount I earn in the UK, without reducing the overall amount I earn, I could then claim child tax benefits and drop below the 40% barrier.

Transferring the UK house into my Wifes name means we can reduce the council tax payments, as I am no longer resident, especially if the UK Government switch from a "council tax" to a "local tax", as I would have an increase of around £3000 a year based on the newspaper/Lib Dems figures.

I would own the house in Spain. This I would hope would also avoid capital gains tax if we sell one of the houses.

The main reason for moving to Spain is to give my son the chance to become bi-lingual, and to reduce the cost of private schooling (UK is approx £12,000pa excluding extras, Spain is approx £3000). So I have decided to look at the whole tax issue.

Good to see that you paid attention to the Lib Dems draft manifesto! I think it is a bit early to think about a switch towards a local "fixed income" tax, but election time is coming and this time might see some surprises in the results. :)

As Hervé said, talking about tax optimisation, you should fill the Quote form so Adexpat can contact you and you can then discuss together of different ways of maximizing and optimizing your taxation.
