Hi, my daughter has a work permit to work in London. My husbnd and myself, being her parents would like to visit and hope to stay with her for 2 months. While there, i wish to do a short course of study. Can we just go on a tourist visa. We could show proof of funds from our local banker. Your advice is greatly appreciated. We will be leaving in mid Nov.

    hi, Triple H,

    1.We are Singaporeans.
2.Are dependant's visa meant for parents as well as for children of the work permit holder? For your information, work permit holder in this case is a single.

    You dont need visa.
    6 months given on arrival.
You can take up short course.

On arrival in the UK you must satisfy an immigration officer that you qualify for entry to the United Kingdom as a visitor under the Immigration Rules:

    hi Triple H,

Thank you for your reply. However i need clarification on the following:

    1. Are you saying that even with just a tourist visa I could sign up for a short course of study at any college? At this point in time my seach for courses have indicated a course that i might want to do, which is a part-time evening course at the City Iniversity in London).

    2. Since the courses are held in the evenings, Is it illegal if i give private tuition in Chinese Language during the day when i have the time.
(bearing in mind that i will be on a tourist visa.)

    3. Is it possible for me to get a dependant's visa since my daughter (single) is on a permanent position with the firm in London.

    Thanks again for your advice.

Can my other dependants join me in the UK?
As a special condition outside the Immigration Rules, children over the age of 18 and dependent parents can join you if:

you have been posted to the UK branch of your employer's company by your employer, and
    the person applying:
    is genuinely dependent on you
is, and will continue to be, part of the family unit, and
will not stay in the UK after your stay has ended.

Its not easy for your parents to come on dependant visa.

    Thank you triple H,

The web site you mentioned above states that
while on a visit visa, i could sign up for short courses.

So does that mean that i could apply to do short courses run by a government -funded college, university or adult education centre.

I am very thankful for your help.
