Can I travel to the USA from the UK? What are the entry rules?

The Requirements for All Kinds of Visitors

Irrespective of your reason to visit the US or your vaccination status, you will be required to obtain an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation) visa or a waiver of the same to enter the US as a traveler. You must also know that if you have recently visited Yemen, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, North Korea, Libya, Iraq, or Iran, you will not be eligible for obtaining an ESTA visa waiver and will have to put your application forward for a US visa.

The US Embassy suggests visitors who are counted under the categories mentioned below to not try to travel through an ESTA and must rather apply for the US visa.

• The ones who have earlier stayed for more than the actual period using an ESTA,
• The ones who have been denied entry to the US or have been deported,
• The ones who have a criminal history, and
• The ones who have been arrested.

Entry Requirements for Fully Vaccinated Individuals

A majority of fully vaccinated citizens are allowed to enter the US. The authorities there will be in acceptance of all kinds of COVID-19 vaccines that have been approved by the WHO for emergency as well as the ones approved by the US FDA. These include Sinovac, Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, Janssen, Covishielf, BIBP/Sinopharm, and AstraZeneca. Apart from this, the ones who have obtained their entire series of an active COVID-19 vaccine or Novavax or AstraZenceca trials are considered to be vaccinated as well. As a British nation, you must go through the CDC (US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) website to familiarize yourself with the novel requirements prior to applying for visa.

Prior to boarding an airplane to the US, a majority of passengers, irrespective of their vaccination status, must demonstrate a negative COVID PCR test taken within 24 hours of travelling. 2. Must take a viral test within three to five days of entering the US.

If you have recovered from a COVID-19 infected within the recent 90 days, you will not have to take the viral test.

It is advisable to wear a mask at the airport, in buses, trains, and the aircraft at all times.

Entry Requirements for Individuals Who are Not Fully Vaccinated

Only the US citizens, US Lawful Permanent Residents, US Nationals, and the ones with an exception are allowed to enter the US without being fully vaccinated. So if you wish to travel from the UK to the US as an unvaccinated visitor, you must check if your case is counted as an exception. You can find the list of exceptions from requirements of vaccination for specific categories of non-immigrants and non-citizens through the US embassy website or through the CDC website.

Young Individuals and Children

Children under the age of 17 are not required to be vaccinated and the ones under the age of 2 are not required to take a pre-departure COVID-19 PCR test.

For travelling, the US definition of a child who is fully vaccinated refers to the same requirements of an adult who is fully vaccinated.

If a child is unvaccinated and is with unvaccinated adults or travelling alone by himself, he is required to show proof of a negative viral test taken within 24 hours of departure.
