Gas

Southern California Gas Company is usually the primary provider of the area. The price of gas is currently 89.410 ¢/therm which translates to about 75 therms of natural gas for houses equaling about $80 to $90 per month. Apartments can expect to pay around $30 to $40 a month.

Electricity

LA is one of few places in California to still own public energy which enables them to avoid the rolling black-outs that plague much of California. The Los Angeles Department of Water & Power provides for the LA area. Service can be set-up and monitored on their website, or you may call 1(800) 342-5397 for additional service. Prices for residential electricity usually range from 200 kWh for $22.25 to 2,000 kWh for $219.80.

Water

The Los Angeles Department of Water & Power provides for the LA area. Service can be set-up and monitored on their website, or you may call 1(800) 342-5397 for additional service. Water prices work in a two tier system. The first tier is a standard rate which includes costs of water quality improvements, water security, regulatory expense, and low-income subsidies. The second tier rate is based on the cost for new water supplies and has a seasonal component. Prices usually run about $2,700 a year.
