Mobile phone coverage is generally excellent outside of the more mountainous areas. Mobile phones work on GSM 900 or 3G (UMTS/W-CDMA).

Six network operators provide mobile telephone services.

  1. Chunghwa Telecom
  2. Taiwan Mobile
  3. FarEasTone (WiMAX - South Region only)
  4. APBW - Asia Pacific Telecom
  5. VIBO
  6. First International Telecom (FITel)

Phones vary widely between companies so it is best to investigate each company before signing a contract. The basic fee to sign for a phone is about NT$ 200.

There are also prepay phones with a usual fee of NT$ 0.22 per min. This plans offer more freedom and less commitment, but are generally more expensive in the long term.
