International Schools in Bucharest

Tools:

Bucharest currently has a number of international schools that offer education for children of expats. Courses are taught in English, French, or other widely spoken languages, and may follow a different curriculum than the standard Romanian one, while still meeting the criteria of the Romanian educational system.

International Baccalaureate (IB)

The IB is a program supervised by the International Baccalaureate Organization. Students study mathematics, social science, experimental science, languages, and arts. The IB is divided into three programmes:

  • The Primary Years Program (PYP), ages 3-12
  • The Middle Years Program (MYP), ages 11-16
  • The Diploma Program (DP), ages 16-18

The IB is offered by three private schools in Bucharest: the American International School of Bucharest, the Mark Twain International School, and the European School. However, the IB diploma is not recognized within Romania, and to continue to higher education students have to pass the diploma validation procedures as for any diploma obtained abroad.
