Job Hunting for Short-Term Jobs in Romania

The Romanian job market can offer opportunities for working during the summer, though not as many as in other countries. The seasonal job market includes positions in the tourism industry, pubs, cafes and terraces, but also internship opportunities at the country's top employers.

Common Seasonal Jobs in Romania

Seasonal jobs are a rather recent phenomenon in the Romanian job market. However, the practice has become more common during the last few years. While Romania does not have a particularly flourishing tourism industry, hotels and restaurants do witness an upsurge in their activity during the summertime, hence the need for temporary workforce. Other sectors where summer jobs are in high demand are secretarial and office work, organization of events and leaflet distribution.

Teaching English in Romania

Teaching English is an option, especially if you are a native speaker. Keep in mind that a TEFL qualification will most likely be needed, as well as a college degree.

You may also try giving private classes, as the time availability of students is greater during the summer holiday period. Private classes pay more than schools, but it is more difficult to secure a portfolio of students that is sufficient to sustain yourself. Students Working in Romania

Student Employment Contract

Although many summer jobs are done without a contract being signed, please note that this is not in accordance with Romanian law. Bigger organizations usually require you to sign a contract regardless of the duration of the employment. Fixed-period contracts are no different from standard ones, and must contain all information required by regular contracts.

Discount Cards

• ISE Card (International Student Exchange Card) - An student identification card valid in more than 80 countries. It can be given to students of any age, faculty members and children t young adults of 12-25 years old. It is valid for one year from date of issue. The card can be purchased online on the ISE Card website and costs $25.
• ISIC (International Student Identity Card) - Can be issued to full-time students 12 years and older. It offers a wide range of discounts including transportation tickets, accommodation, shopping, entertainment, insurance, and international phone calls. A passport sized photo is required. The card can be purchased any time, but is valid through December 31 of each year. The price is between $4-25, depending on the country of issue, and it can be purchased at https://www.isic.org/get-your-card/.
• IYTC (International Youth Travel Card) - A discount card for travelers under 30 who aren't full time students. It is valid for one year from the date of issue. The card costs $22.
• EYCA (European Youth Card) - An identity card accepted in 36 countries across Europe, offering discounted prices to accommodation, culture and entertainment, transport and other services. It is issued to young people under 26 or 30, depending on the country of issue. It costs between EUR 5-19 and it is valid for one year.

Romanian Work Visa

As Romania is part of the EU, a work permit is not required for citizens of the EU, EEA and Switzerland.

For other countries, a visa is required in order to work in Romania. All the visa requests are administered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
