International healthcare, medical insurance

Though there is public health care in the Philippines, many people rely on auxiliary private medical treatment. It is usually an issue of quality, volume of patients and long wait times for procedures at public hospitals. Many people go private for non-emergency specialist appointments and non-urgent treatment.

Private Healthcare

Philippine Health Insurance is bought by three groups of people: an individual, group health insurance for companies and family health insurance for families. If you are interested in private insurance, you should take out an insurance policy with a specialist health insurer. Many employers also provide private health insurance as a benefit.

PhilHealth will pay for treatment in a private setting if the hospital is accredited by PhilHealth. Some people choose to be treated in public hospitals because costs are higher in the private sector.

A large private insurance will provide a full range of services. You will find coverage for hospital confinement, outpatient care, emergency care, preventive health care, emergency care and dental care. But always remember that doctors, clinics, hospitals, procedures or treatment must be accredited by your insurance provider. You should call them before paying all fees but usually your doctor will remember to prescribe you a treatment accepted by your insurance.

Prices

Some plans can cost as low as PHP 5,000 a month, but this offers only the most basic coverage. In general, the more you spend, the better your coverage. Most plans are between for PHP 7,000 to PHP 15,000 for individuals and families.

Premiums charged for private health insurance plans are based on several factors which include:

Different companies offer different plans. Investigate the terms and compare private insurance companies before requesting for a quote and signing up.
