Before returning to your home country, follow similar steps as during your departure. Find more information on: "
Departure > Preparing for your move" and close down your household. Repatriating particularities are explored in the article,
"The Art and Science of Repatriation"
Some things you should take into consideration before leaving the country are:
- Find out how much notice in advanced you should legally give when quitting a job (refer to our section on "Find a job")
- Terminate all your rental and utilities contracts, ideally 3 months in advance.
- If necessary, hire a real estate agent to help settle any property issues or to sell any property.
- Close your bank account. If there's anything that needs to be paid or received, make sure you can close it online from your new destination country
- Contact your embassy or consulate for details on tax and pension matters, as well as notifying them of your move.
- If necessary, hire a moving company.
- If you travel with children, look into school registration in advanced and transferring records.
Prepare your arrival
Along with shutting down your house, you will have to prepare for your next destination. If you are wanting to move abroad again, not in your home country, you will need to follow many of the same steps from when you established yourself in PerĂº.
