Landline phone

Currently, every dwelling in Norway must have phone cabling installed. This can be either an analogue line or an ISDN line. It is called fasttelefoni (fixed telephone).

To find a number, check the Norwegian Yellow Pages.

Provider

Telenor is one of the largest providers of landline phone service in Norway. Can apply online or call 05000. Recording is in Norwegian, but by pressing the # sign you can access an operator who can communicate in English.
Phonzo also provide free or cheap calls via the internet.
Lyse can provide phone service if you choose fibre optic line and modem installed internet.

Note that phone services are not available from ADSL and fibre optic cabling services. If you decide to have an ADSL line from Telenor, you can choose to have a phone line as well.
If your house has a fibre optic line and modem installed, you can have a phone service from Lyse. Neither option can be used during a power outage.

Most services can be established with basic personal information (such as name and date of birth). Service can be established online if you have a person number.

Dialling

Norwegian telephone numbers are arranged in a closed eight-digit numbering plan. Dial all eight, whether you are ringing within Norway or from abroad. Dial 22xx xxxx within Norway - and 47 22xx xxxx outside of Norway. The first two constitute the dialling code.

If you are having issues getting through, try calling the international operator by dialling 00 and asking them to make the call.

For more information on how to dial, consult http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/dialing.html?p2=187.

Collect Call

To call someone and charge the call to them, dial the number with a prefixed special code. The person receiving the call will hear a message asking them to accept the charges and if the person being called hangs up within the first six seconds of hearing the caller's name, nothing is charged.

Prepaid Cards

Calling cards can enable you to call long distance or internationally at a lower rate then by using a landline or mobile. They are perfect for travelling or if you only need to make an occasional long distance call. Here are several different online companies offering cards:
