To Call Internationally from Mozambique

To call outside of Mozambique, you will need to dial 00 and the country code for the country you are calling. For example, if you were calling Toronto, Canada you would dial +1 647 234 5678. 1 is the country code, and 647 is the regional code.

You can purchase international calling cards to help reduce the price of calling abroad. These cards are often pre-paid and sold at a fixed price throughout the city.

To Call Mozambique Internationally

Mozambique's country code is +258.

Each region of the country then also has a regional code that must also be dialed.

To call a number in:

When calling from an international location, you will also drop the 0 that appears at the beginning of a phone number. It is only used for local calls.

For example, if this local number was provided 0251 333 9999, you would dial +251 251 333 9999.

Calling within Mozambique

If you are calling locally, you will need to add the ‘truck number' ('0') in front of your call. Usually when someone provides you with their cell phone number, they will say this number as well.

Landline/Fixed Phone Line

Landlines are extremely rare in Mozambique. Most people operate exclusively with a cell phone. Very few companies continue to make new installations landlines at homes or offices.

Public Phones

Public phones are extremely difficult to come by in Mozambique. TDM does in theory operate some in Maputo.

Skype, Google and other ways to connect

If you establish a strong internet connection in your home, you may want to consider other ways of connecting.

If using services like Skype or FaceTime from your phone, be sure to keep an eye on your data usage. Often, these services will eat up your credit quite quickly, making them surprisingly expensive ways of communicating.
