International healthcare, medical insurance

Most expats have some form of private insurance. Kuwait does require some expat nationalities to purchase medical insurance before residency is given. Many more have health insurance back home which covers any treatment in Kuwait. Those that don't have coverage end up paying for all medical treatment, doctor visits or hospital stays.

When taking out a health insurance policy, do take considerable time to thoroughly research your policy, ensure you read ALL the fine print, and pay careful attention to what's covered and what isn't covered. Most insurance policies include limitations and restrictions; for example, "pre-existing" medical conditions are not likely to be covered, certain occupations are sometimes ineligible or draw additional charges. Many insurers limit costs for particular treatments within a calendar year, or have annual limits. Don't be left holding a hefty medical bill by not having medical insurance.

Insurance costs vary between companies and aren't normally published. It is best to contact them in person and discuss your options. Like costs, benefits also vary widely from insurer to insurer. Contact the companies directly to find out more.
