The rail way

In Germany there are now 2 systems:

- Die Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB for west trains)
- Die Deutsche Reichsbahn (east trains)

with different prices and comfort as well.

The train

Intercity trains or ICE are the high speed trains (280 km/h) that link big cities together. Since 1991, 60 intercity trains have been used. They link Hambourg-Hannovre-Kassel-Francfort -Stuttgart-Munich.

Since 1990, EuroCity (EC) trains are used too, to travel in Europe.

Suburban trains and Metro

Around the city of Frankfurt, you have some high-speed trains ((S)-Bahn) and the metro in town ((U)-Bahn). The city has also buses and a tramway.

Buses are often the only transport to go to surrounding villages and often do only one return trip a day.

Car

Although motorways are free and maintained in Germany, the traffic is still busy in certain areas (Francfort, Stuttgart, Munich, Berlin et Düsseldorf).

There is no speed limit on German motorways.
