Frankfurt has a long history of traditional cuisine.
Here below are some of the traditional specialities in Frankfurt:
- Frankfurter sausages, of course- Smoked beef sausages.- Sauerkraut, of course- The 'Schäufelchen', a pig portion (600g) of pork shoulders.- The famous grüne Sosse, (quark and different herbs) is delicious with beef, meat, eggs and fish. It must be served with hot potatoes.- Fromage frais with a slice of black bread, onions, oil and paprika (Frankfurter Goldstick mit Mussick)- Small pieces of marzipan with almond (Die Bethmännchen), sold in chocolate shops.- The Frankfurt Crown (Der Frankfurter Kranz). A delicious cake with butter cream, covered with almonds and cherries.
And of course the Frankfurt drink ‚Ebbelwei': based on apple juice and that you can drink in the tourist tram that goes around the city. Don't miss it!
