Pharmacies in Nicosia

Pharmacies in Nicosia are typically open from 9 AM until noon, and then reopen from 3 PM to 6 or 7 PM.  There are always some pharmacies open overnight in the big cities in case of emergencies, and in Nicosia these include Lilia Papapetrou Kyprianou (+357 22 336095) and Kiriakoudis Michalis (+357 22 344877). Unlike some other countries, pharmacies in Cyprus tend to be their own separate shops, rather than connected to supermarkets and other big chains. Most Cypriot pharmacists will have a high level of fluency in English, or at the very least will have someone working in the shop that does, especially in the big cities.

Keep in mind that foreign prescriptions may not be accepted at local pharmacies, so if you have a prescription you need to fill, bring a decent supply with you when you move and make an appointment with a local doctor upon arrival to get a new local prescriptions.

Precautions when purchasing medication in Cyprus

There really aren't any precautions to take into account when purchasing medication in Cyprus that are particular to the country. Pharmacies in Cyprus tend to be very clean and well kept, so patients should have little to no fear of any kind of contamination or problems with the medication they receive.

The only thing you should keep in mind is that your medications may be sold under a different name in Cyprus, so make sure there is no confusion as to what medication you are purchasing and receiving.

The cost of medication in Cyprus tends to be quite low, as the government controls prices. This also means that every pharmacy should theoretically be selling medications at the same price throughout the island.

Antibiotics require a prescription in Cyprus.
