Rio de Janeiro actually has many opportunities for language classes. It is highly recommended that you learn Portuguese as it will not only improve your day to day interactions, but allow to dip past the surface from tourist to resident. University

Classes are held at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro, or PUC Rio, which offers all levels of study. This has the added bonus of going to school with other Brazilians where you can make friends, practice your language skills, and be part of Rio's bustling city scene. There are occasional intensive 6 week courses, but most course take place over 4 months.

Online

Berlitz International Inc - Berlitz has two schools in Rio de Janeiro and is well-known throughout the globe.
