Social Security in Andorra la Vella

Tools:

Número de la Seguretat Social (Social Security Number) is a unique and personal reference number that gives you access to social welfare benefits, public services and information. You cannot apply for a "Social Security Number" before you land in Andorra. You must be settled in the country in order to apply for it.

All foreign employees with residence and working either for Andorran companies or self-employed must contribute to Andorran social security and be included in the C.A.S.S. (Caixa Andorrana de Seguretat Social).

Social Insurance Contributions

Only those who are under the age of 60 and are either holding and Andorran Passport or currently working in the Principality are qualified to apply to join the C.A.S.S. (Caixa Andorrana de Seguretat Social). Resident and citizen's children are also allowed to join the C.A.S.S. in certain cases (see below).

Those who hold a working contract MUST join the Andorran Social Security scheme.

Andorran Social Security contributions are moderate, if compared with other European countries. 22% of the salary is quoted: 10% goes to health system and the remaining 12% to the pension system.

Social Insurance Benefits

Social insurance was created in order to guarantee sufficient support and social benefits both for citizens and residents working in Andorra.

Before each "C.A.S.S. member" can use freely the health system, there's a 3 months period. After these 3 months, dependents can be registered, but again, there will be a 40-day period before they can use the system.

Resident and citizen's children are considered "dependents" up to the age of 18. Those who decide to continue their studies after the age of 18 must present prove of attendance issued by the education centre, every scholastic year. This will allow them being covered under the contributing family member until to the age of 25.
