Andorran Job Market

In 2017 and for the first time, Andorra's Government presented the active population survey results.  The unemployment rate of 1.7% placed Andorra in a very good position compared to neighbouring countries. Spain closed 2016 with an unemployment rate of 17.3% and France with 9.4%.

This positive figure is accompanied by a progressive increase in the number of employees and in wages, as well as a significant reduction in the number of people registered in the Occupation service.

Other relevant indicators are the recover and increase in imports, since 2008, with more than 1,300 million Euros.

The tourism sector also increased its benefits reaching up to 8 million annual visitors.

Finally, Andorra has managed to rank among the top ten countries in the world in The World Bank Group's ranking on institutional stability, absence of violence and on government effectiveness, and to occupy a prominent place in The Lancet's ranking of access and quality in the health.

Cover Letters

A cover letter usually accompanies a CV in a job application. In the format of a letter, it establishes your tone and intent. Also known as a cover letter, covering letter, motivation letter, or letter of motivation. Therefore, the recommended format is:

During the interview you will have to describe and explain your experience through your CV. Avoid raising the question of the salary in the first couple of interviews and wait until the company offer you the job before you evoke the issue.

Wages in Andorra

As in all countries, wages depend on the sector in which you want to work. The minimum wage in Andorra is 991,47€ per month (last update of 2018).

Holidays in Andorra

During traditional national and parish (municipal) holidays, the employee is entitled rather to one additional day off or to be paid double for the worked hours.

If the holiday corresponds to the employee's day of rest, the latter cannot move it or claim for any compensation.

Regarding compulsory bank holidays, the Andorran calendar provides for 17 mandatory rest days in all sectors of activity, except for medicine and tourism sector. If one of these days is worked, the employee then recovers one additional day of rest or receives a daily double remuneration compared to the base salary.

Compulsory annual leave is 30 days a year or proportional to the number of worked hours. Vacations shall be taken during the calendar year or, in exceptional cases, during the first quarter of the following year. The employee cannot refuse the holidays.

As a job seeker you can also access the European job mobility portal EURES. This resource provides information about job vacancies from any professional field, as well as information on the living, working conditions, etc.

Make sure to add "Andorra" as a keyword when starting your search, since some job offers have been added into "Spain section".

Career Fairs

Career fairs are an excellent way to find available jobs and opportunities. There are a large variety of employers that you can meet in one day. Entrance is usually free, but registering online might be asked. Bring your resume and dress to impress, as there may be interviews on the spot.

Networking

Sometimes getting a job is about knowing the right people. Talk to friends, family and business contacts to see if they have connections in the area you would like to work. Expat events can also be a great way to find out how other expats found their work and see if their company has any openings. Use social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedln or expat forums.

Recruitment Agencies in Andorra

Most agencies specialize in a particular field, such as computers, nursing, secretarial work, accounting, catering, or construction. There are also "Head hunting" agencies that are hired by large companies to recruit executives, managers or professionals. To find an appropriate agency, look for "employment agencies" or check the job biggest national and official database where most of the opportunities and listed and updated daily.

Work Visas & Permits
Andorra authorizes permanently and effectively residence and work rights in the country during the validity of the authorization extended by the immigration service.

This can be request it in accordance with current legislation, by any newly arrived person who: 

The first authorization is valid for one year and renewable three times for periods of two years. After seven years, the successive renewals are delivered for periods of ten years, except for the nationals of the states that have signed and ratified an agreement with the Principality of Andorra.
