The Israeli social security system is overseen by the Minister of Social Affairs and is administered by the National Insurance Institute.

All Israeli residents over the age of 18 are entitled to coverage, including housewives. Members of a kibbutz or who have immigrated to Israel at the age of 60 or more are not covered.

Social insurance contributions amount to 16% of the national average wage, or 24% for a couple.
