    TV & Internet

    Last update: 4/07/2008

    Television

Hot provides cable television to Israeli homes Yes (which provides television services through satellite transmissions. The advantage of the cable company is that licensing laws allow it to offer full bidirectional communications (such as “Video on demand” services) whereas satellite TV can’t. There are only two Israeli commercial channels Channel 2 (which broadcasts over air waves) and Channel 10 – but there are several niche channels which make their earnings from TV advertisements, such as: Israel Plus, Music 24, and the Israeli shopping channel. Additionally, Channel 1, which can be received using a regular TV antenna, belongs to the Israel Broadcasting Authority, which is financed by an annual licence fee which every TV owner in Israel is supposed to pay.

    Radio

In contrast with state television, state radio is allowed to produce revenue from advertising. The radio section of the Israel Broadcasting Authority is called Kol Yisrael (meaning "Voice of Israel"). Reshet Bet is currently the leading radio station in Israel. Two additional radio stations belong to the Israeli defence forces - Israel Army Radio and Galgalatz. Regional radio stations also exist, as do a large number of pirate radio stations.

    Internet

The Israeli internet market is divided into two parts: companies that provide infrastructure and those that provide the actual internet services. The infrastructure providers are Bezeq and Hot. The biggest Internet service providers are Bezeq international, NetVision 013 Barak, 012 smile, in addition to 35 smaller companies. The highest speed currently available is 10MB download and 1024KB upload, which is provided by Hot. Internet cafes are available in main towns and in tourist areas all over Israel.
