    Pubs, Cafes and Restaurants

    Pubs, Cafes

There are many bars in Sydney and you will have no difficulty finding a place where you can enjoy a good evening. The City is the district where numerous young people meet on Thursday and Friday evenings to celebrate the weekend. The district of Kings Cross is also famous for its bars and clubs (among which one of the most popular is the Bourbon). The district of Rocks attracts a lot of tourists, and the East Hotel, one of the most popular pubs in Sydney, is to be found here.

Finally Oxford Street is known to be the gay district, but the bars are not only reserved for the gay population.

Other nice bars in the city are: Shelbourne, WarfBar, Sleep Inn, The Establishement, the Cargo boat Bar, Of Jackson Pub …

    Restaurants

Sydney counts more than 10 000 restaurants.

As in most big multicultural cities, we find in Sydney a lot of fast food and famous restaurants: Mc Donalds, Hungry Jack, PizzaHut... but with the Asian immigration you will also have the choice of a multitude of Chinese, Japanese and Thai restaurants, (the most of them for low prices). These restaurants are often open seven days a week until 1:30 in the morning and you will find a large number of them towards Oxford Street and Darlinghurst either in City or in Australian Square.

For those on a tight budget a lot of pubs offer classic dishes (burgers, chips, spaghetti) at low prices (approximately $5).

You can also try typical Australian restaurants which are famous for their high-quality products. In recent years Australian cuisine has been created with typically local ingredients such as ostrich or kangaroo: give it a try!

Tipping is customary in Australia if you think you have received good service (not tipping in restaurants might be frowned upon).
