PACIFIC GAS and ELECTRIC COMPANY (PG&E) is the company which provides gas and electricity to the inhabitants of the bay. For your subscription which is free, please, call ( 800 ) 743-5000 ( also valid number for emergencies). Electricity can be a killer because that includes air conditioning in the summer

For water, contact the SAN FRANCISCO WATER DEPARTMENT at ( 415 ) 923-2400. For your water connection, it will cost you $12 if you are an owner, and $63 for a tenant (family of 4 persons for example).

In the ecological spirit of San-Franciscan, know that you will obtain from this service certain financial advantages if you opt for 'green' equipments, for example European washing machines.

    Garbage Collection

To know which company is in charge of this service in your district, please consult the " Yellow Pages " in the column " garbage collection ". The collection of domestic garbage takes place generally once a week and it will cost you approximately $12 for a dustbin, $23 for two.

In San Francisco, two companies cover the city :

    • Sunset Scavenger Company (for Excelsior's, Mission, Twin Peaks, Bayview, Hunter's Point, Richmond and Sunset districts. Phone : ( 415 ) 330-1300.
    • Golden Gate Recycling and Disposal Company (for the districts of Pacific Heights, Fillmore, Marina, Chinatown, Telegraph Hill, Financial District, North of Market and Fisherman's Wharf. Phone : (415) 626-4000
