    International healthcare, medical insurance

    Last update: 13/03/2008

Health care in the USA is invariably excellent and among the best in the world, provided you can pay the bills.

The health insurance cover required when living in most other countries is totally inadequate in America, where the recommended minimum annual cover is around US$500,000.

Basic health insurance in the US is not designed for expatriates who, for example, may want medical care in their home country or access to many facilities. Therefore, many expatriates find it advantageous to take an expatriate health insurance. Costs depend on age, where you live and for which countries you want to be covered.

Most people get it through their work.

Two major companies are Blue Cross and Cigna.
