    A Social Security Number is required to expedite various administrative tasks such as purchasing a cell phone, installing a land line and other utility services in order to avoid leaving a deposit of $500 to $750, reimbursable only after 12 months.

    Social Security numbers are only issued upon presenting a visa or work permit or to US residents.
