Miami County is laced with four interstate highways I-75, I-95, I-195, I-395, several US Roads like US-1, US-27, US-41 and US-441 and several axes that make up the road network of Florida. Miami is the southern terminal of Amtrack's Atlantic Coast service located in the city of Hialeah. A car is definitely recommended Miami, because of the vast distance between districts, but public transportation is well served.

Metrorail, Metrobus

Miami-Dade Transit is the public authority of management for public transportation and directs the greatest grid system in Florida, the 14th largest in the United States. Its network includes The Metrorail, a 36 km length subway line used by 62 300 passengers a day, the Metromover which serves Downtown Miami-Dade, Omni and Brickell, the Metrobus with more than 100 lines used by 267 700 passengers daily, and the Paratransit, a transport service dedicated to serving the handicapped.

Bus

There are approximately 700 buses serving the city with several lines operating at night. The 21 stations of the Metromover in downtown Miami connect the majority of buildings, hotels, cultural spaces, tourist attractions to the businesses districts Omni and Brickell and are open from 5:15AM to midnight.

Exact change or tokens are required for bus fare and costs $1.50 + $0.50 for a transfer in Miami-Dade and $1.25 + $0.50 for Broward County. Tokens are sold in many stations or at the Government Center in downtown Miami and you may also purchase a "Metropass", which gives unlimited transportation for one month on the metrorails and metrobus.

Taxi

As in any major city, taxis are a convenient but costly solution.

Airport

Miami International airport is located at 15 km of downtown Miami and the fee from South Beach to the airport is approximately $32. Fort Lauderdale airport, Miami's second airport, is approximately 27 miles north of Miami.

Car

A driver's licence is easily obtained in Florida for occidental countries (mostly European) and is as easy as presenting your visa and passport at the Department of Motor Vehicles (D.M.V.), along with your foreign driver license. For the cost of $20, you will receive a temporary licence for 30 days then receive your permanent driver's licence by mail. Your licence is valid until the expiration date of your I94 (not your visa), which is the white or green paper that the American authorities placed in your passport at the custom when you entered the country.
