    Gas

Thanks to the privatisation you’ve got several gas (water and electricity) companies. The more frequent is British Gas (http://www.british-gas.co.uk/) but other companies might have cheaper rate and provide you a good service as well.

If you need to know which company provides you with gas call Transco (Phone: 0870 608 1524) and give them your postcode and the reference number of your meter.

    Electricity

The main company is London Electricity (http://www.london-electricity.co.uk/) and useful telephone numbers are:

    - Customer Enquiry Help line (24h, 7 days a week) 0800 096 9000
    - Energy Efficient Advice Service (free advice) 0800 096 9966

You can call the first number and ask a booklet for information if needed.

You will receive the bill quarterly. You can pay by cheque, Giro, Debit Card, or at the Post Office. You can also choose to pay by direct debit quarterly or monthly.

The General Purpose Tariff for Standing Charge is 9.90p (inc. VAT) [for reference 1st April 2000]. The Unit Charge is 6.38p (=1kW).

    Water

The main company is Thames Water (http://www.thames-water.co.uk/). You can sometimes be charged for water coming into the property and going out.
